Creative writing prompt for today: Using figurative language, paint a picture of the view from a window in any home (yours or someone else’s), a hotel, lodge, cabin, tent, cruise ship, spaceship, or any place from your imagination. The goal is to make it “colorful” so that any reader can see the exact same view. Remember, part of the view we see may involve the other senses such as sound or smell. Thursday: Discuss archetypes and plot types from "The Plot Thins." Begin short story "The Sniper" in class (complete reading for homework if needed). Homework: look up definitions for literary terms given out in class. Due by Monday. Friday: Bring sketchbook to class today with your finished "Word Picture." You will write a description of the view from either your real or imaginary window. The goal is to describe what you see so well that anyone who reads it can "see" the exact same view as you. Complete discussion and work on literary terms. 1st period will read the "The Sniper" at home and answer the "Story Analysis Chart" and bring to class on Tuesday along with your copy of A Separate Peace. NOTE: Friday is Picture Day and the spirit-day theme is GQ, so dress up! On Friday, 1st period will be extended to 2 hours and 2nd period will not meet.
