Homework: Read "The Cask of Amontillado" and come to class prepared for follow up activity. Tuesday - "Cask of Amontillado" activity in class. Homework: Complete any work unfinished in class. Study literary terms and vocabulary words Lesson 1. Wednesday - Review for Short Story Unit Test on Thursday. Homework: Study as needed. Thursday - Short Story Unit Test. Bring your copy of "A Separate Peace" to class on Friday. Homework: Study for vocabulary quiz tomorrow. Friday - Vocabulary quiz. Begin "A Separate Peace" introduction and reading. Homework: None! Have a great Labor Day Weekend! You will need to bring your copy of A Separate Peace to class on Friday, August 29.
Monday: In class - review "The Sniper" and handout, select the journal entry for Night and Anthem you want me to grade for content. Homework: Read "The Most Dangerous Game" and come to class prepared to discuss and answer questions. Click here for the link. Vocabulary exercises I, II, and III are due by Wednesday. Tuesday: In Class - Students worked in groups of 3 or 4 to complete a short-story analysis form. Homework: Complete handout at home and bring to class Wednesday. Study vocabulary in Lesson 1 and complete exercises I, II, and III by Wednesday. Wednesday: In Class - Review "The Most Dangerous Game" handout. Check exercises I, II, and III. Begin "The Scarlet Ibis" in class if time permits Homework: Read "The Scarlet Ibis" at home and complete the study guide given out in class. Thursday: In Class - Discuss "The Scarlet Ibis" and check the study guide. Notes over symbolism. Homework: Complete vocabulary lesson IV, Identifying Sentence Errors, and Improving Sentences by Monday, August 25. (First vocabulary quiz is Friday, August 29, because the Short Story Unit Test has been moved from Tuesday to Thursday next week. Normally, the vocabulary quizzes will be on Thursdays, every two weeks.) Friday In Class - View video over Edgar Allen Poe and take notes. Homework: Vocabulary exercises, study your literary terms and vocabulary words. Review your handouts over all three short stories. Remember: If you will simply read your notes each night before bed, you won't have to "cram" for any more quizzes or tests! **Short Story Unit Test will be on Thursday, August 28 (Note the change from Tuesday) Parallel Readings: These are the books we are reading this semester, beginning with A Separate Peace. If it is possible, I would recommend obtaining all three books now to alleviate any stress in case the deadline to have it in class slips up on you.
